Always good when a cultural adventure can incorporate some tasty grub too. The Marmalade Chelsea buns with a cup of earl grey tea perfectly rounded off my recent visit to the Wellcome collection's current and wonderful show Miracles and Charms. Last nights jaunt to Hackney Wick found us in the recently refurbished H. Foreman & Son's. A bit out of place against the standard warehouse's of the area, it none the less aint half bad. The show featuring the likes of Jon Burgerman was ok, but the highlight of the evening was the smoked-salmon platter. I fail to recount the exact number of smoked-salmon varieties we got, but needless to say it was plentiful. Served with blinis, capers, diced red onions, crispy thins and freshly baked light-as-a-feather rye it was very pleasant indeed. So engrossed were we with our feast, that we had a fairly snowy trek back along the canal. Worth it though!

Found these in a 1970's print book. I'm sure by now you will know just how into mark-making I am. The pages just got better and better the more I looked at them. I have been doing lots of sewing and embroidery lately and this find only inspires me further to get printing again and make some simple smock dresses and tees with my hand-painted / printed cottons. Time to dig out the brother (sewing machine!)

Gosh, those textures, drapes, metallics, mattes and sheens all amalgamated into individual looks are truely inspiring. I adore the fluidity in his tailoring and the laid back elegance. So much movement in each and every garment but they all somehow come together to dance the same dance.

Just before christmas I did a test run of tea towels, turning my traveller and wardrobe risograph prints into textile pieces. There is room for improvement before I get something I am really happy with, as ideally I would like to print onto a nice coarse linen so the print becomes much more textural.

And here is a personal project I've been working on. Informed by a sculpture I made, this is an illustration of it. At some point it would be lovely to make into a large scale piece. I ought to get a photo of the mini-piece too. Watch this space!

Something very satisfying about the bare-faced look. Much simpler, altogether more delicate. I love the photographs of my mum and aunty in the 70s - long hair, not a scrap of make-up and looking really quite cool and relaxed in their cotton tees and corduroy shorts. Sure, it takes an element of bravery to just go for it, especially in this slap-obsessed world of ours. But it is incredibly liberating. Mix it up a little with a hair-do of sorts and a splash of colour on your digits and you're good to go. Tom-boy chic! (These photographs are courtesy of turnedout.tv)

Summers as a child were spent building dens. Dens in the woodland of Fife or upon tiny, small specs of land almost entirely immersed in water in Varmland, Sweden. I am not sure whether such a mound would be classified as an island but as a young child rowing upto this otherwise unreachable land, its size in comparison to my small frame certainly deserved the title. Those summers were pretty wonderful. My sister and I would stay in an old converted boat house at the edge of the lake. I remember washing our faces each morning with fresh water collected from the lake with a tin pitcher which was then poured into a matching ewer. A short run up the track to the main house for breakfast and then our days adventures would begin. Forraging for all kinds of weird and wonderful plant life to heave aboard our canoe and take onto our island to form our special two-week hideout.
